Kenya’s electricity grid is already something of a climate diplomat. Roughly 90% of its power comes from clean sources—geothermal bubbling beneath the Rift Valley, hydropower cascading from highlands, solar glinting in arid plains, and wind sweeping across escarpments. Yet wind, the most temperamental of renewables, is fast becoming the most ambitious. A glance at the national project map reveals a country betting heavily on breezes—especially in two counties: Kajiado and Marsabit.
