That’s a dramatic leap from just 14% in 2020, solidifying TikTok as a major player in the social media scene since its U.S. debut in 2018.

TikTok’s popularity shines brightest among younger users. Nearly 60% of 18 to 29-year-olds use the platform regularly, making it their go-to space for entertainment, creativity, and connection. From viral challenges to communities like “BookTok” and “CleanTok,” TikTok offers something for everyone, especially for those seeking fast-paced, engaging content.


The app’s dominance is even more pronounced among U.S. teens. TikTok has become the most popular platform for teenagers, sparking concerns among lawmakers about its potential influence due to its Chinese ownership. Despite these concerns, TikTok’s grip on pop culture and everyday life is undeniable.

Growing Across Age Groups

TikTok’s appeal isn’t just limited to younger users. It’s also gaining traction among older age groups:

  • 42% of adults aged 30–49 used TikTok in 2024, up from just 11% in 2020.

  • 22% of adults aged 50–64 now use TikTok regularly, compared to only 3% in 2020.

This growth shows how TikTok has become a platform for all ages, offering entertainment, education, and connection across generations.
