🎓 Education: From Elitist Hobby to Global Pastime
Two centuries ago, schooling was less a right and more a status symbol. In 1820, fewer than 1 in 5 adults worldwide had received any basic education. For everyone else, survival skills—ploughing, weaving, and dodging famine—were the curriculum. Reading? That was for priests, bureaucrats, and the occasional eccentric who thought books were more fun than bread.
