World Predictions for 2025: A Look into Global Expectations

A recent survey conducted by Ipsos offers fascinating insights into global expectations for the near future. Over 23,000 adults from 33 countries were surveyed between October 25 and November 8, 2024, shedding light on the trends and challenges many believe will shape the upcoming year. Here are some key takeaways:

1. Climate Change and Economic Pressures Remain Top Concerns

Most respondents (80%) expect average global temperatures to rise, reflecting growing awareness of climate change. Similarly, 79% foresee prices increasing faster than incomes, highlighting persistent economic anxiety amidst inflationary pressures.

2. The AI Revolution Accelerates

The role of artificial intelligence in reshaping the job market is a significant concern, with 65% predicting that AI will replace many jobs in their country. This represents a slight increase (+1%) from 2024 predictions, emphasizing the growing perception of AI as a disruptive force.

3. Virtual Worlds Gain Traction

A new category in the survey reveals that 59% of respondents believe more people will live their lives in virtual worlds by 2025. This trend points to the increasing prominence of technologies like the metaverse, augmented reality, and online interactions in daily life.

4. Global and Social Challenges Persist

While concerns about a new global pandemic have slightly decreased (-1%), 47% still view it as possible. On the social front, only 33% believe people in their country will become more tolerant of each other, a sentiment that has dropped by 2%.

5. Geopolitical Conflicts Show Limited Optimism

Respondents remain skeptical about the resolution of ongoing conflicts. Only 27% think the war in Ukraine will end in 2025 (-4%), and just 22% foresee an end to conflicts in the Middle East, reflecting a cautious outlook on peace.

What These Predictions Mean

These responses highlight a world grappling with uncertainty. From economic and technological shifts to social and geopolitical challenges, the survey underscores a mixture of hope, concern, and caution for 2025.
